Why City of London Patients Choose Smile Hub for Hygiene

Smile Hub is the only dental practice in the City of London to offer Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) — a modern, gentle alternative to traditional scale-and-polish. Instead of metal scalers, GBT uses warm water, fine powder and air to lift stains and harmful biofilm from every surface of your teeth, including under the gum, around implants, and between orthodontic brackets.

With over 20 years of combined hygienist experience, a settled team of four, and a brand-new clinic minutes from Liverpool Street, we’ve helped thousands of City professionals, residents and visitors keep their gums healthier and their smiles brighter. We’re regulated by the Care Quality Commission and invested in the latest Swiss EMS GBT technology so every appointment is gentler, faster, and more thorough than a traditional clean.

Dental Hygiene FAQs

What actually happens at a GBT hygiene appointment?

Your hygienist reviews your medical history, then applies a safe disclosing gel that highlights exactly where plaque and biofilm are hiding. The GBT handpiece uses warm water, fine powder and air to gently lift stains, biofilm and tartar from every surface — including under the gumline and around any crowns, veneers, implants or braces. A final polish leaves teeth smooth and stain-resistant, and your hygienist finishes with personalised technique tips for the next few weeks.

How long does a hygiene appointment take?

Most hygiene appointments at Smile Hub take around 45 minutes from start to finish. If it’s your first GBT appointment or there’s more work to do, we’ll let you know in advance so you can plan around your day.

Is GBT better than a traditional scale and polish?

Yes — in most cases. GBT is gentler on enamel, gums and dental work, reaches parts of the mouth that traditional polishing can’t, removes staining more effectively, and is particularly well suited to patients with implants, veneers, composite bonding or braces. Most patients describe the experience as more comfortable than a traditional clean.

How often should I see a hygienist?

For most adults, every six months keeps plaque and biofilm under control. If you have gum disease, orthodontic appliances, implants or a history of staining, your hygienist may recommend more frequent visits. We’ll give you a clear plan at the end of your appointment.

Do you offer late-night or Saturday hygiene appointments?

Yes. Our Spitalfields clinic runs Tuesday evening and Saturday hygiene appointments, along with lunchtime and early-morning slots during the week. Book online or call the clinic to find a time that fits around your working day.
