Every root canal at Smile Hub Spitalfields is carried out by Faisal Moughal — a King’s College London-trained dentist in the final months of his 4-year specialist training pathway in Endodontics.
Faisal qualified with Honours from King’s College London and has spent his career working across hospital, NHS, private, prison and mental-health dental settings before focusing on the part of dentistry he finds most rewarding — root canal treatment. He is now in the final few months of the 4-year specialist training pathway in Endodontics at King’s College London, part time alongside his work at Smile Hub. Outside the clinic, Faisal plays the saxophone and cricket, travels, and spends time with his two young children.

Everything you need to know before your consultation at Smile Hub Spitalfields.
Root canal treatment becomes necessary when the pulp inside a tooth becomes infected or damaged due to deep decay, cracks, trauma or dental disease. Without treatment the infection will spread, causing bone loss and eventually tooth loss — the only alternative is extraction. A successful root canal relieves the pain, saves the tooth, and lets you keep biting, chewing and smiling with your own natural tooth structure.
Faisal will numb the area with local anaesthetic and place a rubber dam to keep the tooth isolated. Using the dental operating microscope, he’ll open the tooth, remove the infected pulp and clean and shape the root canal system. The canals are then filled with a rubber sealing material and the tooth is sealed temporarily or permanently depending on your treatment plan. Most cases are completed in a single appointment.
Modern root canals shouldn’t hurt. The treatment itself should feel no different to having a filling once you’re numb. There may be some tenderness for a day or two after your anaesthetic wears off — usually easily managed with over-the-counter painkillers — and Faisal will give you clear aftercare guidance before you leave.
Yes. If you’re in acute pain, call our Spitalfields practice on 020 3859 7611 and we’ll fit you in as soon as possible. Our emergency ‘open and dress’ appointment (£300) relieves the pain immediately and stabilises the tooth ahead of a full root canal treatment.
A root canal consultation is £175 (sometimes waived if Faisal can assess you from an existing X-ray). The treatment itself is £1,075 for an anterior (front) tooth, £1,175 for a premolar and £1,275 for a molar, with small additional fees if retreatment, a post or post removal is needed. You’ll receive a clear written quote at your consultation before any treatment is agreed, and 0% interest payment plans are available to spread the cost.
Once the root canal is complete, most back teeth need to be protected with a porcelain crown or onlay to stop them fracturing, because the tooth is structurally weaker without its internal pulp. For front teeth a tooth-coloured filling is often enough. Faisal will either place the restoration himself or refer you back to your general dentist with clear instructions.
