Safe amalgam filling removal in London

Do you have an old filling? Mercury in amalgam fillings could be harmful to your health. We offer safe amalgam and mercury filling removal with Dr. Kellie Jones. Using advanced SMART techniques and protocols, we ensure your procedure is as safe and comfortable as possible, supporting your journey towards better oral and overall health.

Understanding the risks of your mercury fillings

Amalgam fillings, often called “silver fillings,” contain 50% mercury alongside other metals like silver, tin, and copper. While durable, these fillings release mercury vapour during everyday activities like chewing and grinding. prolonged exposure to mercury may lead to health concerns for some individuals, including:

  • Neurological issues
  • Developmental problems in children
  • Risks for pregnant women and their babies

At Smile Hub, we follow advice from health organisations, including the World Health Organisation and the Health and Safety Executive, to promote safer alternatives and provide mercury filling removal for your peace of mind.

Why Consider Amalgam Removal?

  • Mercury Concerns: Some patients express unease about mercury content and electrical nature from their fillings.
  • Aesthetic Preferences: Desire for a more natural-looking smile without the metallic glint of amalgams.
  • Allergic Reactions: Though rare, a few individuals might have sensitivities or allergies to the metals in the amalgam.

Rigorous SMART protocol for your peace of mind

Every step of our process follows SMART protocols, ensuring minimal exposure to mercury for both patients and staff. Our measures include:

  • High-speed evacuation devices to capture mercury discharge
  • Charcoal or chlorella rinses before and after the procedure
  • Use of non-latex nitrile gloves and materials
  • Amalgam separators to prevent mercury waste from entering the environment

What to expect during your safe amalgam removal

A step-by-step guide

Step 1 – Consultation

This is an extended consultation and will begin with a full mouth examination followed by an assessment of your amalgam fillings. The fee for this consultation is £150. Dr Jones will then provide you with options to replace your fillings with biocompatible alternatives such as composite and porcelain. She will talk you through the process of removing the amalgam fillings and replacement restorations including the cost and time required for the procedure(s). Dr Kellie will be happy to answer your questions and provide you with a written treatment plan out-lining your care and next steps.

Step 2 – Preparation

On the day of your procedure, the treatment room is set up with specialist equipment to ensure safety, including:
– High-volume air filtration
– Protective gowns for you and the team
– External air nasal masks to prevent inhaling mercury vapour

Step 3 – The removal process

Amalgam fillings are carefully sectioned and removed in large pieces to reduce exposure. Your mouth is then thoroughly rinsed with water and a chlorella-rich solution to aid detoxification.

A dental dam protects your mouth while a specialised aerosol vacuum captures mercury vapour.

Step 4 – Restoration and aftercare

Your fillings will be restored with BPA-free composite materials or prepared for porcelain restorations. Dr Kellie may also recommend nutritional support to aid detoxification and enhance your overall health.
