Smile Hub has invested in the latest Swiss technology in hygiene therapy and we are the only practice in the City of London that is GBT Certified.
Guided Biofilm Therapy uses a protocol and Swiss technology to remove harmful biofilm from your teeth and gums. Air-polishing is a method of removing biofilm and stains with the help of kinetic energy.
Using a mixture of air, the corresponding powders and water, teeth, implants and soft tissue are effectively yet gently cleaned. The biofilm, which consists of bacteria and other microorganisms, is thus removed without the use of chemical products.
The benefits of a GBT appointment over a standard hygiene appointment:
With GBT we use a protocol to disclose where the biofilm is on your teeth. This helps to target our cleaning and demonstrate clearly which areas need improvement.
The EMS GBT system uses warm water and tiny powder particles to gently remove the biofilm and stains from your teeth instead traditional instrumentation with metal scalers.
GBT thoroughly removes subgingival and supragingival biofilm, the main cause of tooth decay, gingivitis, periodontitis, peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis.
Cleaning is quicker, more thorough and gentler on the tooth structure than tooth polishing with paste and rubber cups, even in areas that are difficult to reach.
EMS GBT is ideal for interdental cleaning, in case of misaligned teeth, deep fissures and in under the gum.
Removes tooth discolouration and staining.
The system is gentle and treatment of choice for clients with composite bonding and veneers.
An excellent choice for ‘hard to clean’ fixed orthodontic appliances such as braces. These are gently cleaned using the powder jet reducing the risk of the brackets debonding.
Due to the investment in the technology for GBT hygiene appointments are more expensive than traditional methods. Once you have experienced this method and the results you will agree that it’s definitely worth it.
Our hygienists will be able to assess what care you need including removing visible hard deposits and staining. This is all part of the service they provide, and you will be able to see the improvement after just one visit.
They will also give you expert advice on gum recession, bleeding gums and bad breath and gum disease.
Currently EMS GBT is only available at our Spitalfields clinic.
To help keep our dental hygienist appointments affordable, we ensure our prices are extremely competitive compared to other expert hygienists near us in London.

Why is oral health so important?
The mouth is the gateway to the body and many studies have shown that oral bacteria have been found within areas of the body that are infected or carry disease.
Further studies show gum disease are linked to many other diseases of the body.
There are proven links between our oral health and heart disease, stroke, diabetes, dementia, arthritis, and pregnancy complications.
By maintaining good oral health, you are helping to reduce your risk of other systemic diseases.
Consistent dental hygiene is the key to a healthy mouth and a confident smile. Our hygiene experts understand that most dental problems can be easily prevented through a regular program of hygiene checks, advice and daily control.
If you have ever experienced bad breath, tooth decay or gum disease, the most likely cause of these is bacterial plaque, which can be controlled by effective dental hygiene.
At your hygiene appointment our hygiene team will screen your gums to check the health and advise accordingly. The regular, professional removal of plaque and tartar will promote healthy gums.
Dental plaque is the sticky layer of bacteria that constantly forms on our teeth. Some foods, such as sweet snacks and starches can increase the formation of plaque, which can sometimes remain hidden between the teeth and underneath the gum line.
The bacteria in dental plaque release acids, which can lead to cavities and gum inflammation. Our hygiene team will show you how to remove plaque yourself to improve your gum health between visits.
A powerful yet controlled jet of water, air and fine powder not only polishes all the surfaces of a tooth, removing plaque, discoloration and soft deposits, but also reaches deep into periodontal pockets up to a depth of 5 mm.
It is very effective at removing the damaging biofilm that develops when dental plaque is colonized by bacteria and can cause periodontitis and peri-implantitis to develop.
Air polish leaves your teeth feeling super clean and smooth and whiter if you have stains from tea, coffee and red wine.
Air polish is an additional £45.
Our hygienists have had additional training to be able to offer complex treatment when required. This usually involves treatment with local anaesthetic and multiple visits to be able to clean an area thoroughly.
Care plans for this are on a individual basis and either your Smile Hub Dentist or Hygienist would advise if this is recommended.
